Hey there friends, my next guest and I had some technical difficulties so we switched to a zoom meetup… you’ll hear me struggle through the process but you won’t get to see us… neither one of us were ready for glam shots at that hour… but we had the greatest time chatting about her story in Courage in Cannabis – a collection of accounts edited by Dr. Bridget Cole Williams, MD.
The first volume is a great read and I’m proud to display it on my table. You’re privy to some of the stories in the next volume coming out soon.
Last week we heard the origin story from Dr. Bridget and the week before was Nikki Lawley, a working RN who suffered a traumatic brain injury on the job.
These are every day people like you and me, living through trauma and coming out on the other side with the help of this critically acclaimed plant. We must get past ourselves and help the planet heal. Cannabis is a tool for accomplishing just that. And there’s no better place to help you understand this than right here on the Cannabis Truth podcast…
right after the intro…
Intro
Honey Smith Walls 0:00
Welcome to season four of the Cannaba Verum podcast, the cannabis truth podcast.
I speak the language of cannabis freely and uncensored while educating my audience on safe use of this live plant therapy. You should know what’s in your cannabis…what’s good and what’s not.
It does not come with an FDA stamp of approval yet. Using cannabis mindfully as medication is a different concept in Western healthcare philosophy, specifically of the past 100 years. There’s a lot to learn and reconsider.
The information you’ll find here comes straight from scientists and clinicians doing the work and reporting their findings in real time through various live online outlets.
The scientific truth of cannabis is finally getting out and is wide open for all to see at respected medical sites like pubmed.gov and JAMA, the Journal of American Medical Association… and I’m right there in the thick of it with all those titans of medicine… as a fly on the wall.
Because I’m not a doctor, nor did I go to med school. But I did take dozens of private cannabis courses and still engage in continuing education offered by cannabis expert scientists over the past few years and slowly began to see and understand the bigger picture.
Now I talk to people all day long about cannabis and hopefully inspire them to research the facts as we know them today. Cannabis is an amazing alternative in health remedies. It can reportedly alleviate typical disease problems and troubling side effects, even those caused by synthetic prescriptions.
This is Honey Smith Walls, a 21st century cannabis shaman, not a doctor, not a scientist, raised by nuns and wolves in the verdant cattle pastures of the Oklahoma oil fields. I’m here to amplify the truth of this great big story of cannabis in historical, political, scientific and spiritual terms, so you can make educated decisions about the medicine you choose to ingest.

Hello, Maybe you can see me but oh, there you are. Oh dear…
Tonica Spicer Combs 4:03
Technology…
Honey Smith Walls 4:11
I’m not set up for lighting… my hair is awful.
You know, lalalala…
Honey Smith Walls 4:18
Gosh, I’ll be able to edit all of that out. But honey, thank you so much for gracing us with your story about Courage In Cannabis. I’m really tickled to be presenting this series with the authors who will come on and so far… this week we’ve heard from Nikki Lawley and Dr. B. Is coming soon.
Honey Smith Walls 4:50
We’ve got you and several other authors who are coming as well. So I’m just grateful for your time. Why don’t you tell my audience who you are and how you came into all of this great big story.
Tonica Spicer Combs 5:06
Well, I had used cannabis as a teenager, just you know, kind of what a lot of teenagers do. Yeah, so that was my first experience with it, but I didn’t really use it recreationally. I just kind of dabbled a little bit here and there. Didn’t really you know, think much of it. I was more of a drinker I like relax with a drink. And so that was my family. Yeah, right. So I ended up long story short, I ended up in a really bad marriage and just lost myself completely.
Tonica Spicer Combs 5:47
It was really bad. To the point that I didn’t know who I was anymore. I couldn’t go out in the world and function. Like kind of, I felt like a child. I was put in my place so to speak.
Tonica Spicer Combs 6:04
A lot of control to control all right.
Honey Smith Walls 6:10
I thought that’s what a wife or husband… I thought he was a head of the house. Let me follow him!
Tonica Spicer Combs 6:16
He was leading us down down the road. A lot of wrong paths. And so I just kind of lost myself in taking care of the kids and kind of put my focus on them and just didn’t take care of myself at all. When I got up to over 300 pounds… My health was declining.
Honey Smith Walls
Girl that had to be hard on you…
Tonica Spicer Combs
It was very hard and like I didn’t even see myself that way until like now. I can see how much weight I gained. But like, at that moment, I had no clue but I was overeating. I was just medicating with alcohol and on my prescription medication. was trading supposed to be treating my depression and my anxiety and everything and it wasn’t helping it was making me a zombie although it still made me feel like Marilyn Monroe. It was just a bad situation.
Tonica Spicer Combs 7:14
Come around 2019 when the program was available in Ohio for medical marijuana, which I like to say cannabis instead but you know, that’s another topic for another day.
Honey Smith Walls
Yeah, well, you know, we’ll talk about the language rolling underneath us in this era, especially in the world of cannabis. Exactly. Because it encompasses so many attitudes… recreational… medical, corporate, farming, industrial worldwide… so many different attitudes. Political. Right, exactly. Medical is still naive, right? Very naive. And that pains me that we have so many people in places that shouldn’t be running things that they have no clue about. And that’s kind of America, but we’re legislating things I have no clue about
Tonica Spicer Combs 8:16
I’m the same way but I’m refraining but so I ended up getting my card. In 2019 got my first prescription. I got just flower because that’s all I had experience with.
I didn’t know about the other products… I had never tried edibles or anything so yeah, what’s an edible? Right right. So I mean, I knew about them. I wasn’t completely mad. There were cookies, things like that. Like the plethora that was available now is just amazing.
And so I tried flower after I filled my first prescription in 2019. I stopped all my pharmaceuticals… I stopped drinking alcohol… I lost over 100 pounds, just gradually… but still. My health has improved… my mental has improved… My emotional… Everything has improved. Oh god I know it has… And I didn’t want to attribute my improvement to cannabis either really so much in the beginning.
Tonica Spicer Combs 9:22
But because I didn’t regard it as medicine, right, right. I just knew I needed it so that I could get away from the chaos I felt everywhere. All I knew is that it just helped me calm down and feel peace. Right? Right. Because I realized I had anxiety… that I’ve been abused all along.
Tonica Spicer Combs 9:45
Yeah. When you live in that world of submission to control you just say yes. All the time. Right. Exactly. And I had no idea like, it was like a veil was lifted once I started consuming because I felt like okay, this is wrong. You should not be dealing with this. Like the things that you’ve been through are traumatic and there’s no reason that should be downplayed, and you should not be in this situation… and I just felt stronger.
Like I could find myself again like I had my own thoughts. I could process things without freaking out about it and having an anxiety attacks… things just kind of… my brain slowed down and was like okay, let’s just back it up here because you are worthy.
You should not be treated like this. You don’t have to stay in this marriage just because this is what people think you stay in a marriage for the kids. You stay in a marriage.
Sorry, my camera’s…
Honey Smith Walls 10:59
That’s ok… we’re not going to use the video anyway. Right? Yeah, sorry, everybody. You’re not gonna get to see how darling she is.
Anyway, yeah, I feel that kind of a situation where you’re constantly devalued.
Honey Smith Walls 11:13
Told you are not right. Whatever it is, you finish that sentence however, right? And then the only thing that does make you feel good is food. Yeah, I was eating my life away. Just that’s it, you know, so, yeah, yeah. I lost mine with keto and it took me about a year. But it was real real dirty keto.
Honey Smith Walls 11:50
And then I switched to becoming a vegan. And so I’ve been a dirty vegan for several years now and so meaning you know, I have a little stuff with butter occasionally… don’t tell anybody.
Honey Smith Walls 12:09
I find it’s not enough. I’m 68 and it’s not enough food. Being a vegan. It’s not enough protein I’m taking. Like all women, mostly really. We don’t take care of ourselves, we don’t know. So it’s real hard to want to go in that galley three times a day, you might prepare, take an hour each time and prepare food and get all of it done. And I’m a solopreneur.
So I don’t have any hours of the day to waste, right. You know, being a chef for myself, right? I get it. But so I went back to incorporating eggs in my diet now. That’s good and trying to wrap my brain around not really being a vegan anymore, right.
Honey Smith Walls 12:55
We condition ourselves. My point is we condition ourselves and we have been so conditioned by our society and our particular cultures and the families we grew up with and the people we choose to live with. Yeah.
Honey Smith Walls 13:11
And the first time ever heard somebody say, Well, you are the culmination of the closest five people you hang out with, I thought, Oh, Jesus.
Tonica Spicer Combs 13:21
I know. I know who those people are! Yeah, I’m worried. Right? And I just told my kids that and they don’t even have five people that they’re around that much. So knowing that their father and I are two you, it’s like, oh, they need more.
So they need more positive influences and people who aren’t so judgmental and harsh and critical of things, because it trickles down like the things that I went through. My kids are now experiencing, because they’re becoming their own people. They’re teenagers now. So it’s like, oh, you’re not doing what I want you to do or you’re not becoming the person I want you to be. So, you know, under my roof, you have to do this and you can’t express yourself and you can’t. And I lived through a lot of that I wasn’t able to watch horror movies, which is one of my favorite things I grew up on.
Tonica Spicer Combs 14:15
Right? Like I’m gonna invite evil into our home if I watch a horror movie, like it was just just crazy things like over the top things…. I understand being cautious and things like that. But it was just ridiculous to a point.
Honey Smith Walls 14:59
So well, it’s very hard to live within the boundaries of somebody else’s imagination. Absolutely. That is 100% Yeah. And then we try to make our kids do that, you know, and they follow us as we do it too. Right? I can’t speak to my kid. No, I mean about stuff like that because he’ll think I’m lecturing, of course.
Right. But I wonder if you’re able to talk to your kids about control issues and alcoholism and stuff like that.
Tonica Spicer Combs
Yeah, they know all about the things that I’ve gone through. They know about when I was medicating, per se with alcohol which I shouldn’t have been and I was taking my prescription medication like they saw me fall apart in that whole space that we were all living in. But they’ve also seen me healing myself and becoming the person that I am now and still becoming stronger and outspoken and not afraid to be who I am.
Honey Smith Walls
They must have only growing respect for you.
Tonica Spicer Combs 15:48
They do and it makes that really precious. Yeah, it is. And they know all about cannabis and how I medicate with that and my kids aren’t curious like most teenagers, like a lot of their friends are trying cannabis for the first time and experiencing these things. And so my son is like, kind of like oh my gosh, mom, like my friends are doing this and you know, I know you use it for medication, but I feel bad because I don’t want to be a snitch and so he’s struggling with that and not being a snitch but if they were doing something hard or something that is actually considered a drug… because I don’t ever consider cannabis a drug… It’s a plant… It’s a medicine… It’s healing.. but I don’t consider it a drug.
My oldest daughter actually struggles with drug addiction. And we’ve seen the ins and outs of that. So for my kids, they don’t view cannabis as a drug or something harsh or something that’s harmful. They know that. You know, it’s not dangerous but you can do too much of it or use too much… consume too much. There’s gonna be adverse effects for everything. You can have too much sugar, you can have too much caffeine, you know, there’s for everything so, right. So they’re not blind to that and we’re really open with that. So it’s good.
Honey Smith Walls
I’m glad to hear that. I like to separate cannabis as Plant Therapy, in the Plant Therapy category, as opposed to the synthetic prescriptions made in the laboratory. The isolated compounds that target one thing and give you multiple side effects and oftentimes death. Oh, right… buy me now!
Tonica Spicer Combs 17:35
Right. We’re just hounded by the commercials on synthetic prescriptive drugs. Yeah, on television that my teenagers and I talk about all the time. And it’s almost comical because like all the things that it lists for this one thing that you’re gonna take it for, but these are all the possibilities of the adverse reactions or death.
Tonica Spicer Combs 17:58
Buy me!! I’ll just keep what I have and I’ll deal with my ailment.
Honey Smith Walls 18:04
It’s astonishing what corporate attitudes have allowed themselves… the story they’ve told themselves to be able to sleep at night. Right? All right that you’re punishing the billions of people… We’re just a dance to corporate. I know. I know. It’s very concerning. I try not to get into… let’s not talk about politics. How do you medicate?

Dr. Mazo Commercial
By Honey Smith Walls
Hey, my friends, I want to give you a tip about a neurologist I know and trust.
Dr. Anthony Mazo is a highly rated specialist here in Melbourne, Florida.
One of the first physicians to research and study cannabis since 2016 when it was legalized in Florida, Dr. Mazo is not quick to prescribe traditional synthetic chemicals when he knows that this gentle live plant therapy will likely give the needed relief.
I know this to be true because I had to see him for my own old lady neuropathy issues. He did not prescribe the usual synthetic stuff. He told me to go get a particular kind of cannabis instead… and use it in a specific way to find relief.
And that is what every doctor in America should have in their little black bag.
His clinic details will be in my show notes for you. Why? Because he’s a trusted cannabis expert in the field of neurology. Dr.Anthony Mazo in Melbourne, FL at the Brevard Neuro Center.

Usually flower… I love smoking cones. Even though we’re not supposed to in Ohio. It’s like this weird law where we can’t put flame to flower and we have a device. It’s ludicrous. It is crazy. And that’s what I mean by like, not having people in places where they know what is going on. They know how to medicate they know the things that you need to use to medicate and things like that. It’s just goofy.
So they have down here in Florida…. Capped our THC. Patient can only have so much THC per month.
Tonica Spicer Combs 19:54
Legislators.
Honey Smith Walls 19:57
Right I don’t really want to talk about Florida right now.
Honey Smith Walls 20:01
You know, there’s lots of book burning and banning going on. And crazed radicals out here. Yeah, it’s a hard place to live right now. If you have any consciousness or awareness.
I love talking about the introspection that cannabis allows us. And you began to tell us how it made you feel because it gives you tolerance and patience. You begin looking inside yourself right and defending yourself and forgiving yourself.
There’s this old Hawaiian mantra called Ho O’pono Pono, and it’s the simplicity of its four simple phrases.
Forgive me. I’m sorry. I love you. Thank you.
Honey Smith Walls 21:02
Isn’t that beautiful? I’m told there are Facebook groups that say it 24/7/365 because it’s such a lovely, powerful mantra. And the first time I ever heard it I instantly said it to myself and was so relieved. So healed of all kinds of goo.
One of my closest friends in my circle also happens to be in my band. And there’s half a dozen or eight of us at any given time, kind of like herding cats. And so you know, you want to get them all to play nicely together. We’re all different personalities, right? But she takes every single musical direction I give to her personally.
Honey Smith Walls 22:02
And it breaks her heart.
Honey Smith Walls 22:05
And then I’m frustrated because geez, I just asked her to turn that way slightly.
Honey Smith Walls 22:13
And so I tried to have a little ceremony for our relationship for whatever the buttin heads is that’s going on. And and I try to forgive not only myself for being who I am outwardly in her perception, because I don’t want to be however she’s perceiving me. Right, right. I don’t want to be that if it’s negative, right? Because I don’t intend to be.
Honey Smith Walls 22:44
I love her. I want her in the band. She’s great. So I use a lot of cannabis to help my emotions remain calm when I’m with her. And in those times I use a lot more CBD.
Honey Smith Walls 23:06
Then that product filled with less THC because high percentage THC makes me a little anxious.
Honey Smith Walls 23:16
I can just get into a real full blown panic attack if I overdo THC. But knowing how to master the alchemy for oneself is really nice fundamental cannabis knowledge, right. And so it really helps us to know how different people use cannabis throughout the day… how they find it’s working for them and and their lifestyle because that’s part of it too. If you live in an apartment house and you can’t have a smoke, smelly cannabis, you know it’s written in the lease.
Tonica Spicer Combs 24:05
Yeah.
Honey Smith Walls 24:07
So many other ways to consume. It’s wonderful now Yes, yes. Wow. All kinds of ways.
Honey Smith Walls 24:19
Nana technology would come down to Florida in the form of drinks and things Oh, yeah. You know, I like to slug down something nice and cold… and have in fact… I had a popsicle one time that had 20 or 30 milligrams of CBD in it.
Honey Smith Walls 24:37
Then got into the car to leave Miami in 12 lanes of traffic and thunderous hurricane conditions, crashes all around me and I was just calm and cool.
Tonica Spicer Combs 24:53
I know it. Couldn’t believe it’s so great. It is.
Honey Smith Walls 24:57
Well, it’s been wonderful to hear that you have been able to overcome so many adversities with yourself… isn’t autonomy a wonderful thing? Yes. Very much, especially in this day and age. Right? Because we’re helping generations of men get past the idea that they get to control. Right.
Tonica Spicer Combs 25:23
Absolutely. And so, you know, I’m not suggesting not to have wonderful relationships with men, but just protecting your autonomy and until you know who you are… right? And can stand up for yourself is a good thing. Yes. Yeah. You had to learn it. The hardest way. I did and it stinks.
I try and tell my kids things so that they don’t end up going the wrong way or not the wrong way, but like, down that harder path… we try, right? Don’t let someone mistreat you. I don’t care if it’s how you love them. It’s just that’s love. People that love you don’t mistreat you. I don’t care what anyone says they will not give you pain. They will not inflict pain on you if they love you. And that’s those from parent to child that goes from lover to lover, from sister to brother like all the way across the spectrum. You just don’t hurt the people you love.
Honey Smith Walls 26:26
Oh, that’s such deep womanly wisdom. I love that. I so appreciate you coming to talk to us today.
Honey Smith Walls 26:39
And I wish you the best of luck on this book and your journeys. What are you doing from here?
Tonica Spicer Combs 26:47
Right now? Well, I recently became an ordained minister so that I am able to perform wedding ceremonies for whoever would like to get married because three of my four children are LGBTQ plus and so how to do something to help… so I am officiating my best friend’s wedding ceremony in September which will be my first. I’m very excited. I am really excited.
Honey Smith Walls 27:14
I’m one of the captains of Brevard County for Equality Florida, which is the largest LGBTQ organization across the United States. And we do a lot of work down here. I can say it isn’t completely overwhelmingly frustrating Oh, yeah. But the support in my LGBTQ family is really one of the things that helped me get through the COVID years.
Honey Smith Walls 27:49
You know, just their compassion again. Also in the cannabis industry, right. Compassion is huge.
Honey Smith Walls 27:58
You know, when you find people without compassion in the industry, you know, instantly who they are… the money. Right, exactly. Yeah. And although corporate cannabis is already a thing… It’s clear who and where they are, and we hope to be able to help them understand they don’t have to go the same philosophical way as Western sick-care did. Right. Right. Yeah. So cannabis is a different idea altogether than Western sickcare.
Honey Smith Walls 28:40
Western sick care has no intention of healing you and has not made money if they heal you or somebody right? Where’s the money? Oh, right. And cannabis and Plant Therapy has every intention of giving you relief, but healing as well. Yes, absolutely. And it can do that from the top down so to speak from your mind, all the way down, all the way. So you know, it’s not just a physical thing. It’s a spiritual thing.
Tonica Spicer Combs 29:14
Yeah.
Honey Smith Walls 29:15
I’m so glad to know that you’ve become minister…. that’s lovely, beautiful. To to find another woman in this area. What brought you to that?
Tonica Spicer Combs 29:31
Just the healing that I experienced with cannabis. Overall cannabis has opened my eyes and my heart so much and I just want the world to know that this is not this evil plant that propaganda has put out there and things like that.
Honey Smith Walls 29:54
It can heal the world if given a chance, honestly. Yes. Yes. It was completely thwarted. I mean, it was already on a trajectory to come up and heal humans and animals too, but it was corporate white guy from America… From the US more specifically, who really put a kibosh on the whole thing.
So amazing what one person can do. Right, exactly, exactly. So what can we do? There it is. The follow up is what can we do? We can do a lot… we can do a lot. Yeah.
So you’re probably really already busy on Sundays. But I want to invite you to my live Sunday Clubhouse stage where I talk about the spirituality of cannabis every Sunday at eight o’clock here… and that would be very early for you but I want to invite you to come whenever you want to and join the conversation because I love talking about cannabis and spirit and the whole mind body thing… right near neurogenesis and hyphae and stuff like that. So there’s a lot to consider and I’m brand new to talking about this.
Honey Smith Walls 31:30
But I really want to with somebody else who understands what I’m trying to get at and can help me form good thoughts… and I love the whole concept of thought discipline.
Honey Smith Walls 31:45
And being able to change chemicals into ideas, right, that were originally electric sound waves, right and electrical ideas changing into chemical ideas washing over us and the right ideas. You know what happens? With cannabis, and then demise and serotonin and endorphins happen, right? So all of those are good selling chemical right? And so for all those years of trauma that we’ve endured, that’s why cannabis feels so good. To most of us. Absolutely, because it’s healing literally healing with thought. And that thought discipline is what really intrigues me and I love discussing about how cannabis turns us introspective and does all of that Spiritual healing.
Honey Smith Walls 32:43
And physical healing. No, it’s an amazing machine of bugs and chemicals and plants and atoms, and molecules. It’s so exciting. It is. I love it. I love it.
Well, Toni, it’s been wonderful being with you, honey, thank you again for joining us and I wish you the very best of luck in Courage In Cannabis and also in your ministering. Thank you and come anytime on my other clubhouse adventure. Absolutely. I’ll be there Sunday. Fantastic. All right. Well, thank you again. And if you’d like for any of my audience to get in touch with you, is there a way that you’d like to?
Honey Smith Walls 33:30
Boy, I said that badly.
Tonica Spicer Combs 33:34
I can be reached at my name. TonikaCombs@gmail.com. Okay, very good. Well, then, we’ll put that in the show notes for you if anybody has a question, or needs a minister for marriage. Yes.
Honey Smith Walls 33:51
More coming. So yeah, or needs to talk to a mom of LGBTQ teens. Right?
Tonica Spicer Combs 33:59
Absolutely! And I’d like to go into more of that if you don’t mind, you know, since Sunday, or you know, it’s, it’s, we all need help. And we just all need help. So I appreciate you. Thank you. I appreciate okay, you soon all right. Have a bye bye.

Friends. I’m just stunned to realize how difficult it is to find trustworthy. High quality CBD products that are full spectrum. You know, the whole plant with all the natural compounds extracted for you to consume as nature provided. They just don’t carry it and the dispensaries in my town. They push their own isolate brands and you know, that’s just not good enough for me, they didn’t have all the compounds.
I’ve heard a lot of complaints about how to find consistent over the counter CBD products, and I have a solution.
Last year I became an affiliate partner with Healer hemp products. Dr. Dustin Sulak, who created this line is truly one of the greatest leaders in cannabis to this day, giving his patients relief from their issues for many years with his Healer CBD products that can be shipped now to all 50 states.
I use his acidic version of cannabidiol or CBDa… it has everything plus a lot more of the compound which Dr. Sulak and other leaders in this industry have found to be more potent, thereby using less, which ends up making a big difference in your wallet. But it also adds many benefits to your body. Start lifting your quality of life with healer CBD products today, and check out that sweet discount just waiting for you in the link below.

Cannaba Verum is Latin for Cannabis Truth. Sourcing factual information about cannabis hasn’t always been easy for a variety of reasons. However now because of modern innovations, it is. My sources are from leaders in cannabis science like:
Roger Adams, U.S. Organic Chemist who isolated the structure of CBD,
Raphael Mechoulam, Israeli Organic Chemist who isolated the structure of THC,
Ethan Russo, Dir R&D International Cannabis and Cannabinoids Institute
Dustin Sulak, DO – my favorite doctor at healer.com, teaching the art of Cannabis Healing to the world, and other industry greats like:
Rev. Dr. Kymron DeCesare, Ed Rosenthal, Jack Herer, Michael Backes, and Michael Pollen and so many more… plus I use classical sites like: PubMed.gov, JAMAnetwork.com, ResearchGate.com. I listen to several daily podcasts to keep up with the latest cannabis news across the nation and throughout the world like: Dr. Codi Peterson et al on The Cannigma Podcast, MJTodayDaily.com and MarijuanaMoment.net. I trust the CBDProject.org and CannabisScienceTech.com. I watch the National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) at: thecannabisindustry.org and many more like: NCIA’s Cannabis Industry VOICE (CannabisRadio.com)
Over past episodes of Cannaba Verum, we’ve listened to some amazing scientists and medical professionals talk about their discoveries and patient successes as hundreds of questionable compounds rise to the public grasp. I am especially interested in the pharmacists movement becoming an integral part of this new medicinal choice.
Watch this machine roll into action through conversations with pharmacy doctors all over the nation like Dr. Leah Johnson and Dr. Codi Peterson out West and Dr. Alan Ao up North. There are so many more getting involved now… these are just a few who have come on my show to explain the situation and it’s fascinating.
