Promo Intro:
Hello my friends,
Today we’re learning about a company who takes their mission so seriously that growing slowly within the industry is as important for the trust of the patient as it is for the safety of the product… and he shows us how cannabinoids are nutritional…
right after the intro…

Honey Smith Walls 0:00
Welcome to season three of the Cannaba Verum podcast, the cannabis truth podcast. I speak the language of cannabis freely and uncensored while educating my audience on safe use of this live plant therapy. You should know what’s in your cannabis. What’s good and what’s not. It does not come with an FDA stamp of approval yet.
Using cannabis mindfully as medication is a different concept in Western healthcare philosophy, specifically the past 100 years. There’s a lot to learn and reconsider. The information you’ll find here comes straight from the scientists and clinicians doing the work and reporting their findings in real time through various live online outlets. The scientific truth of cannabis is finally getting out and is wide open for all to see at respected medical sites like www.pubmed.gov and JAMA, the Journal of American Medical Association (jamanetwork.com).
I’m right there in the thick of it with all those titans of medicine as a fly on the wall. Because I’m not a doctor. I didn’t go to med school. I did take dozens of private cannabis courses offered by cannabis expert scientists online over the past few years and slowly began to see and understand the bigger picture.
Well, I can talk to people all day long about cannabis… and hopefully inspire them to research the facts as we know them today.
Cannabis is an amazing alternative in health remedies that can reportedly alleviate typical disease problems and troubling side effects caused by synthetic prescriptions. This is Honey Smith Walls, a 21st century cannabis shaman… not a doctor… not a scientist. Raised by nuns and wolves in the verdant cattle pastures of the Oklahoma oil fields. I’m here to amplify the truth of this great big story and language of cannabis in historical, political and scientific terms… so you can make educated decisions about the medicine you choose to ingest.

Honey Smith Walls 0:04
It’s wonderful to have you Ryan, thank you for coming and letting my audience understand how you operate in this industry. We’re tickled to have you… Why don’t you introduce yourself?
Ryan Bowman 0:54
My name is Ryan Bowman. I am the owner and operator of Ryes CBD. We are a CBD products company. We currently have one product that we’re listing and that is our CBD balm. It’s an all inclusive full spectrum CBD product, which works with the entourage effect. And utilizing a litany of time-tested Mother Nature-approved ingredients such as Arnica, Comfrey, Marjoram Oil, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, and other long listed historical, natural items that help with healing and interact with the endocannabinoid system.
Honey Smith Walls 1:34
I saw that long list and it made me curious… now you’ve got me starting at the bottom of my list of questions to you. First of all, thanks again for that lovely explanation of your product line. I want you to know that my audience is pretty savvy and I preach pretty high soapbox about COAs and what’s going on and the complement of compounds within whatever cannabis that you’re choosing and how to use it properly and mindfully.
So I was really interested in your product because of what you got going on… because I see that you’ve got a lovely COA on your products and I’m just curious about some of the other stuff. But before we jump into all of that, would you tell my audience… how did you become interested in the plant? What got you here?
Ryan Bowman 2:34
Oh, man, well, youthful activities got me involved. Early on just being recreational at a young age.
Honey Smith Walls 2:43
Definitely… the legacy got me here too. You know, but then I grew up and I understood there’s a bunch of compounds in that are really helpful.
Ryan Bowman 2:54
Yeah, my late teens early 20s. I started experiencing seizures and I increased the amount of recreational use because I couldn’t afford and I didn’t appreciate the alternatives.
So I started doing that and as just the person I am, I like to know things. So I researched a lot about the cannabinoids. I already had a brief anatomy class on the endocannabinoid system early on before they even really knew or understood much about it…
Honey Smith Walls 3:27
So now it’s an “ology”, right? The Endocannabinoid ology and the ohm and all of that. So a whole new dictionary of words for us to learn and the language is still rolling on us, but go ahead.
Ryan Bowman 3:39
Yeah, so that got me in and then as a massage therapist, I was just naturally inclined into natural healing alternatives and kept rolling with it.
Honey Smith Walls 3:52
Yeah. Who did you study under? What scientists did you find that really piqued your interest?
Ryan Bowman 4:00
Oh, God. My favorites. Obviously the the father of cannabis. The Dr. Mechoulam…he’s the man.
Honey Smith Walls 4:08
I knew you’re gonna say that. You know I read your your stuff and saw you on LinkedIn a lot. La la la and I know what you’re doing. But I’m so glad that my audience keeps hearing Rafael Mechoulam’s name because we do regard him as the father and he’s still you know, what… he’s 92 years old and still a lab rat… still discovering stuff about cannabis. You know, the father of Cannabinoidology.
Ryan Bowman 4:37
There’s a lot to be said about that. The fact that he’s 92… he’s actively working and doing things… because you know, I don’t know him personally, but I would say that he’s actively put cannabis products to use a lot…and a lot longer than most people have. And look at the results. You still have a spry innovative man who’s still pushing 92 years old. That’s pretty impressive.
Honey Smith Walls 5:02
And he’s Israeli. We’ve got our own American scientists that we love. So, you know, there’s a lot of scientists that I just adore in this field because they’re so considerate to teach what they’re learning as they’re going. And that’s pretty amazing in the science world, that allow the public open to that. So I’m really grateful to have real cannabinoidologists teaching us.
Ryan Bowman 5:34
Yeah, there’s a couple others that I personally know and I obviously follow on my LinkedIn account. Dr. Philip Blair, and then also, Dr. Rachel Knox, I really appreciate. Yeah, her angle is also, I think, societally driven… which I really appreciate and the inclusivity that she provides, as well as her Depth of Knowledge. She’s very, very passionate and provides a lot of energy in a way that pushes the envelope… we need more people pushing the envelope.
It’s great to be a scientist and to do your stuff behind. But the more information I find that comes out, we need to push the gas pedal down on getting the legislation open so that people can use it. As you see in my LinkedIn, this is a nutrient. It keeps being described as a drug. Our body produces cannabinoids… yes, it’s a nutrient… not a drug. Your body doesn’t produce drugs. It produces nutrients and things that are nutritious and have value for the body on a dietary level and I want us to get to that point.
Honey Smith Walls 6:48
I’m so thrilled to hear you say this. I’m really getting into epigenetics and even some metaphysical stuff and where cannabis takes us metaphysically and how all that happens, and where we go with it… Cannabis is so introspective, don’t you agree that the first thing you do is start taking a little little look at yourself inside and saying, “Ooh yeah, that feels better”?
Ryan Bowman 7:22
Yeah, I think we refer to that in my business philosophy quite a lot. With the entourage effect and the way we incorporate the other ingredients. Yeah, as a human species, we are just like these ingredients in these compounds. We work better when we work together and enhance each other to our best, greatest levels.
And so like yeah, it is very metaphysical… like looking at a mirror when you’re looking at the plant. It’s like… how can we be better as people… just look at the plant… look how it works together in a symbiotic way to maintain balance and to pull toxins from the earth and share its abundance of nutrients in replenishment and sustainability on its own. A lot of those things… if we were to take that into our societal aspects… we’d really benefit in mining.
Honey Smith Walls 8:12
Oh, absolutely. And one of the reasons the plant is still Schedule One right now is because the powers would lose control… but that’s a whole nother episode, right?
Ryan Bowman 8:27
Yeah, that’s a controversial Hot Topic. Yeah, but there is a lot that goes into that.
Honey Smith Walls 8:33
Yeah, for real so you know, I hate getting conspiratorial. I don’t want to be conspiratorial. I’d rather focus on uplifting vibes. There we go. So, you know, just to put it in a nutshell, because everybody’s at a different level with their own meditative spiritual life and I’ve really been preaching, all of that lately… a lot, I guess, because I’m, I’m there myself and I need it. But I’m thrilled to hear you talk about this too.
Let me jump back to your product if you please. I’m so impressed looking at your website. Such a cute picture of you and Julie…. and your Bergamot Black Pepper 500 milligram CBD balm and your geranium Rosewood CBD balm. Can you tell my audience, whose incidentally… pretty savvy about terpenes and stuff like that and compounds you know, can you tell my audience how you decided to get to those different compound structures in those products?
Ryan Bowman 9:45
Well, the base of the bomb is the formula but the fragrances I believe is what you’re referring to.
Honey Smith Walls 9:53
Yeah, that and the terpenes and all of that jazz, you know. The reason I’m going there is because I just read this four and a half pound reference book from Russ Hudson called The Big Book of Terps… do you have it yet? Oh my Lord. It is utterly amazing. And so naturally after reading that big thing, you know, it just makes me curious how people choose what they do because there’s such a huge variety and choice to choose from.
Ryan Bowman 10:26
Yeah, there is… First of all, we are a company that is going to focus on pushing full spectrum, THC product, THC hemp-derived products.
Honey Smith Walls 10:42
Glad to hear it. Yeah, right.
Ryan Bowman 10:44
For all of those reasons, because again, the entourage effect is really you know, I think I feel that 5-10 years down the road once the education level of mass public gets on to things… You’re gonna see CBD isolates and broad spectrum go by the wayside. And the main thing is people are gonna want the best results… and full spectrum provides the best results…
And then the rest of the ingredients though, that we chose with our time-tested theories in a long time homeopathic approach to medicine have worked… but they have been shunned upon because of “magic” and not having scientific backing to verify.
Well, my thought process was, well, anecdotal evidence is already there. We know it works. It got humanity through plagues… it got humanity through wars and things… and so we know it works. And now as the science for the endocannabinoid system comes out, we’re realizing that some of these compounds that have been referred to as magic or gold in reference to their value, actually interact directly with the endocannabinoid system and that’s why they worked.
You know, a lot of times we look at things in history and we consider it magic until science comes along and adds it out. Right? Figures it out. So right now we’re seeing a lot of the ingredients in here such as Arnica… palm-free marjoram, shea butter, cocoa butter… be understood as compounds that interact directly with the system.
Honey Smith Walls 12:27
And that’s an active compound. Exactly, right.
Ryan Bowman 12:31
So every ingredient we have… every single ingredient in our product, is active. You’re getting in here instead of a typical CBD product that’s just CBD mixed with some Lubriderm… right… and repackaged… you’re getting a full compound… you’re getting 11 active anti-inflammatories, five different active analgesics… along with the other properties like antibacterial, antifungal, anti cancer…
Honey Smith Walls 12:55
Anti all kinds of seizures, all kinds of medicinal properties and those terpenes and other values. Yeah. Can you can you help us understand what a good carrier is? Besides… Oh, and here’s another problem. I’m seeing some issues coming up with coconut oil and allergies. Are you seeing any issues with that?
Ryan Bowman 13:23
Coconut oil? Yeah, that is something…. I actually specifically have a person…. They’re allergic to coconut oil internally. When they take it… but this is a topical.
Honey Smith Walls 13:33
Oh, okay. Thanks for reminding us of that. Yeah, right.
Ryan Bowman 13:37
Yeah. So she she she was like, let me try it and she she’s like no… like on the skin. This is it. She’s like, “It’s amazing. Skin’s never felt softer.” She has osteo osteoporosis disease and disorder. She’s an older lady, and her husband has Parkinson’s and so they’ve been using it effectively for different reasons and seeing results for both of those things coming out really well.
Honey Smith Walls 14:03
Oh God. Isn’t that wonderful? Families and caregivers of Parkinson’s victims are just in misery with their poor lives, you know, a lot of times… and so I’m so glad that there’s finally some relief for both caregivers and the patient.
Ryan Bowman 14:23
Yeah, we like to refer to our product in a few different ways. I like coming up with taglines, but it’s a Swiss army knife for your skin. People ask a lot of the time….What’s it good for and it’s like, well, the approach we took makes it good for anything on your skin, period.
Athlete’s Foot… covered because it’s antifungal. It’s antibacterial, you have cuts, good for the cuts, good for the bruises, but it’s also good for muscle pain, muscle fatigue, it’s a beauty product so it’s good for acne, you can use it on your face, it helps with fine lines and wrinkles.
Yeah, the way through the kitchen sink of skincare ingredients in here. Yeah, we use Rosemary extract as our preservative. And Rosemary is just absolutely loaded with beneficial topical applications. So even the preservative in here is all natural, every ingredients are non GMO. We just took a very hard approach to what the market wants and we made sure that we researched everything so that we’re not giving you any fillers. This is pure, helpful bliss in a can.
Honey Smith Walls 15:35
So can you help somebody understand the outline of your process when you decided to create your own product and jump into a full retail business like this? What would it take… first of all, where are you?
Mazo Promo:
Hey my friends, I want to give you a tip about a neurologist I know and trust. Dr. Anthony Mazo is a highly rated specialist here in Melbourne, Florida.
As one of the first physicians to research and study cannabis since 2016 when it was legalized in Florida… Dr Mazo is not quick to prescribe traditional synthetic chemicals when he knows that this gentle live plant therapy will likely give needed relief.
I know this to be true because I had to see him for my own old lady neuropathy issues. He did not prescribe the usual stuff. He told me to go get a particular kind of cannabis instead and use it in a very specific way to find relief. And that is what every doctor in America should have in their little black bag.
His clinic details will be in my show notes for you. Why? Because he’s a trusted cannabis expert in the field of neurology right here in Melbourne. Dr. Anthony Mazo… at the Brevard Neuro Center on Nasa Boulevard. See his details in my show notes.

Ryan Bowman 17:04
I’m located in Bellingham, Washington. I am in basically the very northwest corner of the United States… about 30 minutes from the Canadian border.
Honey Smith Walls 17:13
So my sister lives up there in Port Townsend. Wow. Yeah, yeah. Well, there’s a buncha hippies up there. Exactly. So I know that neck of the woods and it is exquisite and utterly magical.
Ryan Bowman 17:28
I drove around as a therapist for a long time and ended up coming back to Washington where I was raised… but growing up a little north from where I grew up, because it’s just a special place. The energy here is great. You get the best of the ocean and the mountains. And the balance… the balance… things here are really really copacetic.
Honey Smith Walls 17:48
Yeah, perfect word for the area… truly. I totally forgot what I asked you but Oh, I did want to tell you that when I found out that you had Rosewood in it. I looked up the terpene for Rosewood and it’s Geraniol. And man does that have some wonderful medicinal properties in it!
So I just kind of geek out on all the science of the compounds and stuff. I find it fascinating and you know there’s not just hundreds… there’s going to be 1000s of compounds… and in cannabis…. Now I know what I was asking you… forgive me. How did you… Would you tell us sort of how or what the skeleton of producing your own CBD product looks like. How did you make that decision? Well, I’m gonna wake up one day and decide to make a CBD product…
Ryan Bowman 18:43
Well, you know, the logo is a phoenix rising… kind of from the roots… Yeah, so it kind of has a personal touch for the company.
I was involved in another CBD topical company before this and I helped them create their formula. I helped them become a business with website sales… basically built out their entire program for about three years without getting paid.
Oh and then once they became profitable, they just exited me unceremoniously… and that was family. And that was a life lesson in basically, you know, family’s family, but sometimes you got to realize that even toxic… no matter who it is, family or not, if they’re toxic people… that you have to move on and grow from that lesson. And so that’s where the Phoenix comes in. I’m rising from the lessons and the ashes of that.
Honey Smith Walls 19:52
I get it… that’s painful. Wow. But look at you, Mr. Successful.
Ryan Bowman 19:58
I am working on it. I got aspirations and I’m definitely trudging forward.
Honey Smith Walls 20:04
Well, I’m impressed with your product. I’m impressed with your knowledge of the compounds in the product and why you chose them and I understand the many many benefits from putting this incredible nutrient, like you call it… I call it medicine… but I love love love you calling it a nutrient.
I agree with you completely. Use it all over your body for all kinds of aches and pains no matter what age you are. And so I’ll be telling my friends about your product too.
You know, we’re down here in Florida and I’m lucky enough to have five dispensaries 20 minutes away. One of them’s just five minutes away from me, but I cannot get a consistent CBD product. Why? Because they’re all corporate and selling the highest THC product that they can muster. Because they’re pandering to the recreational bunch although most of us down here are old farts looking for some healing.
Ryan Bowman 21:14
You know that industry…the CBD industry has been really misrepresented because the people that were early in were just household drug dealers prior and they had the money saved up.
And it’s household drug dealers and corporate America that got in and could afford to do it. The people with the knowledge and the intellect and the intention of healing. They’re like me… they’re not necessarily financially as able to jump in. But you know, that’s what we’re doing… we’re taking those steps and we’re building one of a long list of products that I have already to go.
And as people help us grow, we’re going to strengthen with community. That’s one of our pillars of our mission statement. The more our community grows, the stronger we’re going to get… the more products we’re going to have out there. And they’re going to see the long many ways that this nutrient can help. And this is just topical. We have edibles that are in the pipeline. It’s just we have to go through a system and work with, you know, the easiest way forward.
Honey Smith Walls 22:22
Understood. I’m really impressed with what you’re doing and I like being in the same scientific LinkedIn tribe and staying on top of the knowledge.
Ryan oops, there goes my… Oh, all my bells and whistles are going off at once. Ding aling.
Ryan, I want to thank you for coming today to Cannaba Verum and chatting with me and the audience… letting them know how all of this has happened for you. I feel you going through the familial pain. There you go. Do I think that has happened to probably all of us who are entrepreneurs trying to start up their own? It can be a tough lesson. Same with, you know, working with your friends, sometimes that does work out sometimes it doesn’t. So, I guess the whole point is learning how to deal with the stresses of life. And cannabis helps us do that too.
Ryan Bowman 23:29
Yeah, it’s an aid. In every every facet, I really look forward to the progress we can make as a society incorporating it for numerous things like infrastructure, you know, hempcrete… using it for our clothing, all of it… so many options.
Honey Smith Walls 23:48
Toilet paper!! Stop cuttin down trees to wipe your ass!! Oh my god! It’s crazy! Insane!
Ryan Bowman 23:59
The statistics for that…
Honey Smith Walls 24:03
Paper pulp is the third largest manufacturer in the world. And it’s all to wipe your ass. I’m sorry. Why don’t we use bidets?
Ryan Bowman 24:13
I have a bidet!
Honey Smith Walls 24:15
Me too! I love bidets! Do you know? Tushi? Tushi.com I think… I have TheWorldsBestBidet or something like that. I’ve had it for 30 years, but tushi.com sends out the most hysterical butt jokes via text… just reminding you that they’re there.
And if you have any friends who want to talk about or pass on their jokes, then you know, that’s how they do their social media through butt jokes and it’s pretty funny and and pretty effective too. I might add because I do send their jokes on to other people. And then they they get it and then they start looking… so Oh, well. You know social media. Do you have a big presence? Tell us how we can find you.
Ryan Bowman 25:01
Well, yeah, I do. I have pretty good social presence. But first off, ryescbd.com That’s where you can find our page and you can purchase products. We ship anywhere in the United States besides Idaho and South Dakota because of they haven’t caught up with the regulatory laws.
Honey Smith Walls 25:22
Wow. Their poor, stupid legislators. So sad for those states, isn’t it?
Ryan Bowman 25:31
It is unfortunate… There’s a lot of things at hand and hopefully we’ll be able to make better for them. And we also have a social media. We’re on Facebook. We’re on Instagram, we have a LinkedIn and we have a Twitter account as well. I’m a one-man band. So I’m trying to keep up with all the different varieties…
Honey Smith Walls 25:54
You know, I’m not sure if I’ve checked my email in two days, honey.
Ryan Bowman 26:02
So that’s about a three hour job right there to get to it.
Honey Smith Walls 26:05
I know, I know. I know. It’s true. Yeah, being a one-man band. It ain’t easy, but it’s so worth it, isn’t it because of just the autonomy alone and the fact that you can design your life the way you want it. So that’s a pretty damn proud feeling, isn’t it?
Ryan Bowman 26:24
It is… working from the previous scenario where it was a lot of shackles and yes, yes, stuff attached to me that were difficult. So it’s nice to be free and to be able to see the road ahead and the top of the mountain and keep climbing. We are really moving in that direction. Super proud of where we’re going. And looking forward to it.
Honey Smith Walls 26:49
Yeah. Congratulations. I’m proud for you. It’s a pleasure to be in this industry with you. And Ryan, I hope you’ll come back when you’ve got more and newer products to tell us about and keep us abreast of your journey. Because you and I are friends now on LinkedIn. And so we’ll expect to hear from you. Every time you’ve got some wonderfully exciting news for us. Okay,
Ryan Bowman 27:16
Yeah, no worries. I’m happy to reach out I love talking about the product just as much in the nutrient as much as we can. So yeah, anytime you see something and if I fail to reach out and say that I want to speak about it, I’ll definitely make the time to come back and talk with everybody.
Honey Smith Walls 27:33
Oh that’s awesome. Thank you and I’m looking at your Rising Phoenix right now. I think that’s a beautiful story and I love other graphic that you made of it. So I’m gonna think of you often now when I see that so take care, Ryan… and come back see us, okay?
Ryan Bowman 27:52
Yeah, no problem, Honey, you take care as well. I look forward to it. Thank you so much for the time and anybody that wants to join the community, feel free to jump on the website or any of our socials and reach out. I’m happy to give you my time as well.
Honey Smith Walls 28:07
Awesome. I’ll be in touch then and thank you so much. Take care. Bye bye.
