So we’re back with our friend Jessica Reilly who writes scientific prose for the Cannigma… leading cannabinoid science intel from the Ethernet. I’m talking about Cannigma… a global source for science geeks for inside chemical information and more.
We’re jumpin back into the conversation at D8… that common CBD product comin onto store shelves near you. Find out exactly what it is and how to proceed…right after the intro.

Welcome to season three of the Cannaba Verum podcast, the cannabis truth podcast. I speak the language of cannabis freely and uncensored while educating my audience on safe use of this live plant therapy. You should know what’s in your cannabis. What’s good and what’s not. It does not come with an FDA stamp of approval yet.
Using cannabis mindfully as medication is a different concept in Western healthcare philosophy, specifically the past 100 years. There’s a lot to learn and reconsider. The information you’ll find here comes straight from the scientists and clinicians doing the work and reporting their findings in real time through various live online outlets. The scientific truth of cannabis is finally getting out and is wide open for all to see at respected medical sites like www.pubmed.gov and JAMA, the Journal of American Medical Association (jamanetwork.com).
I’m right there in the thick of it with all those titans of medicine as a fly on the wall. Because I’m not a doctor. I didn’t go to med school. I did take dozens of private cannabis courses offered by cannabis expert scientists online over the past few years and slowly began to see and understand the bigger picture.
Well, I can talk to people all day long about cannabis… and hopefully inspire them to research the facts as we know them today.
Cannabis is an amazing alternative in health remedies that can reportedly alleviate typical disease problems and troubling side effects caused by synthetic prescriptions. This is Honey Smith Walls, a 21st century cannabis shaman… not a doctor… not a scientist. Raised by nuns and wolves in the verdant cattle pastures of the Oklahoma oil fields. I’m here to amplify the truth of this great big story and language of cannabis in historical, political and scientific terms… so you can make educated decisions about the medicine you choose to ingest.

Yeah, so I’ve been loathed to tell people to use Delta 8, especially when I’m talking to medical marijuana patients. Anyway, I’m talking to old farts who are really looking for a fix for their aches and pains, not looking for a high… I don’t have anything against getting high… love getting high, but I’m not talking about the recreational aspect of it. I’m talking about getting real, psychological and physical and spiritual help from a plant. And when they start making these, you know… they’re made to get around the frickin laws. So they’re just gaming the system that’s already been gamed and they’re looking for a quick way to make a profit of course, of course, and so there’s no medicinal education in their products at all when you’re looking at D8 stuff.
Jessica Reilly 1:03
But if you want a medical value and you don’t want to get high, go with CBD, CBD all day every day…
Honey Smith Walls 1:08
Or if you’re in an area where you can get THCa, that won’t get you high. THCa is the acidic version. So there’s all kinds of options. But for somebody who comes into my state, who is already a cannabis patient, and they can’t bring their product here, and it’s not reciprocal for medical patients, you know, what are they going to do? And they’re desperate for something and CBD just didn’t do it for them or they need that little bump in a euphoric place.
And then I’m loathe to tell them not to, you know, use an over the counter product. Hopefully, if you can find one that’s got a COA on it. And now guess what? I know a CBD store here in town called The CBD dispensary. Let me just plug it right here and now who has COAs on their products, so Oh, good. Good. That blew me away. So I’m like, okay, okay, I can I can I can live with that. I think you know, because people eat McDonald’s. So….
Jessica Reilly 2:25
Yes. And you know what, at the end of the day, it’s your body. It’s your endocannabinoid system. You can put into it whatever you want. I mean, people have been putting suspicious substances in their bodies forever…. You don’t know where your weed’s coming from or you don’t know how it’s getting to you….
Honey Smith Walls 2:40
That’s right. That’s right. So
Jessica Reilly 2:43
But when it when it comes to my body, I will not be putting D8 or D10 in it.
Honey Smith Walls 2:47
What was the most fascinating article that you’ve done so far? Or they probably all seem fascinating to you as you go into them?
Jessica Reilly 2:57
Oh my gosh, it was so the Cannigma, where I am the staff writer… they have a series called best strains for and we explore best strains for a lot of things like anxiety, PTSD, insomnia. But it’s not just you know, you can search up best strains for insomnia and you’ll get a list of 10 high THC strains that are quote unquote different and will knock you out but these articles are not that… these articles are well researched scientifically based looking at the studies vetted by a pharmacist to ensure that what you’re looking for in these cannabis strains is spelled out… it’s not just giving you a strain name and saying use this it’ll help because names are bullshit. They don’t mean anything. There’s no testing or
Honey Smith Walls 3:41
Thank you for calling it out loud.
Jessica Reilly 3:42
You can call anything you want Sour Diesel in the consumer has no way of knowing if the chemical profile of your Sour Diesel is the same as the Sour Diesel down the road or the next state over… like they can be anything. Right.
So I love these articles because they really require a deep dive into the research and recently we put one out on the best strains for ADHD. And this was really interesting to me because ADHD and the endocannabinoid system are connected. We don’t know exactly how we don’t know exactly why… as with most things with the endocannabinoid system, we’re still figuring it out. But there is a lot of research that shows that the right cannabis strains can really help manage ADHD symptoms.
And I thought it was so interesting to sit down to dive into the research and really understand it’s not just you know, I’ll grab a Blue Dream and smoke it and you’ll feel better. It’s… can you find a cannabinoid blend that works for you. Can you find something that’s CBD heavy with a little bit of THC so you get that euphoric boost… you get those intoxicating effects, but it’s mostly CBD driven so you don’t get paranoid you don’t get anxious, your heart rate doesn’t increase. And can you find these terpenes that really complement and match it well to?
Honey Smith Walls 4:59
Um, I don’t know where to start. I love the Cannigma so much I’m so thrilled that you’re working there and that you’re writing for them. I think the Cannigma is a stellar opportunity for education and truth about cannabis. And I can’t say enough good things about the Cannigma. C A N N I G A Is that right? GMA? Thank you, GMA. Good Lord I can’t spell.com. And I talk about the Cannigma and the people on there… often on my show, Jessica, because it’s important, I think for other people, especially to know where to go to find truthful information and to inspire others to get into this industry. Because any skill that you have will easily fit into the cannabis industry.
Jessica Reilly 6:07
Yes 100% You do not need to be a grower… you do not need to open a dispensary… if you have a specific set of business skills, they will translate into the cannabis industry. Not everybody can grow… not everybody can open a dispensary. But we need accountants, lawyers, writers, secretaries, whatever your skills are, we need that in the cannabis industry.
Honey Smith Walls 6:26
Exactly. Exactly. So I just really appreciate getting to know you and knowing that you’re writing for the consumer, it’s really a marvelous outlet of information. And so I’ll continue to to promote them and I just want you to know how much we regard that company and all the whole team Yes.
Jessica Reilly 6:55
I appreciate that… I love that everything that I write there is proof by somebody smarter than me. Or somebody who knows more than me. It’s great. Like, you know, having scientists rip your work apart produces this end piece that is so strong and so factually accurate. And there’s so many articles that I write, that I do research for, that, you know, tackles the same topics as other publications, but the other publications are just a repetition of the same incorrect information over and over again, and we get to sit there with pharmacists, with cultivators, with biologists to say what is the truth here? This is what I find on Google. But what is the truth? What does the science say? And they get to break it down. It’s so interesting to get to work so closely with so many smart people.
Honey Smith Walls 7:41
And they’re so fun. Oh my gosh. Their humor just cracks me up. Oh, I bet you hear my little hounds going off. It’s just started thundering in Florida where I am and I’ve got one little wolf that just likes to go out and bark at the thunder. I know I know. Crazy. I know. He celebrates. I want to say I am so tickled about the pharmacists Doctor movement going on. It’s huge. Dr. Cody Peterson, Dr. Leah Johnson, Dr. Alan Ao, all of those pharmacists are doctors in the cannabis industry and teaching and expanding knowledge and, you know, just really getting into the nitty gritty with huge audiences of people.
Jessica Reilly 8:38
Yes I mean, you think we get nerdy about cannabis? You should sit down with one of these pharmacists and listen to the rabbit holes that they can fall down. Your understanding and their enthusiasm are unmatched.
Honey Smith Walls 8:49
No kidding. No kidding. I get on the Society of Cannabis Clinicians monthly Zoom meeting. And oh my lord, they get nerdy, nerdy, nerdy, nerdy. Yes. So juicy and wonderful. And then they get tickled at themselves and then there’s lots of passionate discussion and doctors from all around the world are attending. I feel so honored that they accept me as a fly on the wall… just to get to listen to all of that. Yes, I’m allowed to come and hear what used to be reserved only inside the four walls of university. And so I’m so grateful, so grateful. They let me enjoy understanding of this plant on a much higher level. And you know, and I’m just trying to catch up and keep up!
Jessica Reilly 9:55
Who can keep up with all those multi-syllable words. Oh, my gosh, I know it is so hard to keep up with them. Sometimes, like I will be reading the studies and I will have to google words and then I will have to google words that were in the definition of these words!
Honey Smith Walls 10:10
Yeah. And then you if you google them, you have to write them down, or you have to try to save them.
Jessica Reilly 10:16
Or I’ll just highlight them and be like, Hey, listen, somebody who knows more than me needs to review this because I don’t think I’m understanding this properly. I get in there and they’ll break it down. And I’m like, Yeah, I did not understand that properly!
Honey Smith Walls 10:28
I got to Sulak’s book on The Handbook for Cannabis Clinicians, Principles and Practices. I got that on audio first, and listened to it, slow speed. And then I listened to it again at a faster speed. And then I got his hardback book and listened to it again, while I went through the book and looked at the you know, looked at the spellings of all of these different chemical compounds and, and the intricacies of the systems within our own body. And so it goes deep. It goes real deep.
Jessica Reilly 11:06
I love it because it is so exciting to hear these people break down on a truly scientific, cellular molecular level, how cannabis helps you because stoners for years have been saying it helps me… it makes me feel better. It’s my medicine. And people say oh, you’re an addict. You use it every day. But when you talk to these doctors and these pharmacists who can concretely explain what is going on in your body when you consume this plant? Yes, so incredibly validating.
Honey Smith Walls 11:32
Yes. What do you see for the future? How long do you think before it’s all going to fall… all the restrictive bullshit is going to fall away?

By Honey Smith Walls
Hey, my friends, I want to give you a tip about a neurologist I know and trust.
Dr. Anthony Mazo is a highly rated specialist here in Melbourne, Florida.
One of the first physicians to research and study cannabis since 2016 when it was legalized in Florida, Dr. Mazo is not quick to prescribe traditional synthetic chemicals when he knows that this gentle live plant therapy will likely give the needed relief.
I know this to be true because I had to see him for my own old lady neuropathy issues. He did not prescribe the usual synthetic stuff. He told me to go get a particular kind of cannabis instead… and use it in a specific way to find relief.
And that is what every doctor in America should have in their little black bag.
His clinic details will be in my show notes for you. Why? Because he’s a trusted cannabis expert in the field of neurology. Dr.Anthony Mazo, a great friend to all of us. In Melbourne, FL at the Brevard Neuro Center.

There was a shorter timeline that I think it’s going to be. I was at the National cannabis festival earlier this year in April and the day beforehand I attended the national cannabis policy Summit in Washington DC, which was ironically held in the Ronald Reagan Building, but irony was not lost data. Oh. It was just so interesting because I live in New York, which has recently legalized cannabis and when you go to events here, there’s so much excitement there’s tangible excitement. People are ready for this. They want to dive in, they want to take this on, they want to start new businesses. But there is none of that excitement at the federal level. Nobody who works with the federal government is excited for legalization because they know it’s not going to go well. It’s not going to be smooth. It’s not going to be easy, and it’s not going to be pretty or fair. And it’s certainly not gonna do…
Honey Smith Walls 0:55
It could have been if the bastards would have just let a woman do it.
Jessica Reilly 1:00
Nobody wants things done properly. They want things done in a way that greases their pockets they want things done in a way that makes them feel powerful, like they are in charge. They don’t want things done in a way that actually help people because at the end of the day, this is a plant. Nobody is regulating tomatoes nobody’s regulating which mushrooms you can grow in your backyard. They kind of are but like if you get your hands on something nobody’s gonna know… people can’t tell looking at the mushrooms. Like… it is a plant that people deserved? And I don’t want to say unregulated access because it does have intoxicating compounds, but they deserve much easier access to this plant that is so essential for so many things. And the federal government doesn’t care about that. They care about how they can tax it. They don’t care about how they can profit from it. They care about who this plant will make rich. They don’t care about helping people.
Honey Smith Walls 1:54
Do you think the alchemy of cannabis is ever going to get easier for individuals? I mean, because right now there’s a pretty serious formula, you know, that a person as a medical patient goes through in discovery, and it has to do with choosing hemp or marijuana and your terpenes and delivery methods. So all of that formula has to be considered before you even start dosing. And then you got to figure out what the dosing is going to be. And that’s an individualistic thing.
Jessica Reilly 2:35
There’s a big learning curve when you’re finding cannabis that works for you because you can’t just pick up a strain and smoke it and say, Okay, I feel great. Like there’s some that will merely make you feel good, and there’s some there won’t make you feel good,
Honey Smith Walls 2:46
Right. So using the wrong kind at the wrong time…your mind in the morning and vice versa is individualized.
Jessica Reilly 2:53
I think that it will become more mainstream to dive into the complexities of cannabis. I think as we go further into this, more regular people will want to understand cannabis better because if you have access to this point, you can make such a personalized custom routine that supports your individual needs, your individual health goals in a way that almost nothing else can on that level of personalization.
Honey Smith Walls 3:21
That targets multitudes of issues.
Jessica Reilly 3:25
Yes, absolutely. Like you really can create your own custom cannabis routine morning, afternoon and evening that gives you what you need. But like you said, there is a really big learning curve to figuring out what that is. And I think that part of it is like what you said earlier about the pharmacists and the doctors… if we can get medical professionals in here who understand what they’re talking about… who understand the complexities and who are willing to… like Dr. Leah Johnson does… to sit down with people and help them understand what is going to work for them what is not and walk through that trial and error together. She is… I think it’s going to revolutionize people’s health. There’s a really big lift to get there. It is not going to be easy and it’s not going to be quick either. It’s not going to be in the next five years. It’s going to be 10 years down the road. Yeah,
Honey Smith Walls 4:13
Okay, I’m sad to say that’s what I was thinking too… 10 years. Yeah,
Jessica Reilly 4:18
I can’t wait to see all the research that we have in 10 years because even in the last four or five years alone, there has been an explosion of preclinical and clinical trials. So a lot of what we’re testing right now in cannabis, it’s still in human cells and rodents and animal studies, is a growing body of human research as well and I cannot wait to see in 10 years all of the things that we have researched that cannabis can do.
Honey Smith Walls 4:42
What book are you reading? Anything special? Anything?
Jessica Reilly 4:50
Well so I was actually just talking to my partner about this. I have a reading goal this year. I read 75 books last year. My reading goal was 100 books and I hit that but this year, I don’t think I’m going to be able to hit my reading goal of 75 books I’m really behind and I actually just bought new books at the Barnes and Nobles down the street for me like an hour ago. So the next one that I am diving into is Braiding Sweetgrass, Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants.
Honey Smith Walls 5:17
You’re kidding! I just got that book. I just got that book!
Jessica Reilly 5:23
I’ve heard so many good things about it. I’m so excited.
Honey Smith Walls 5:27
Listen, one of the things that I’ve done too, and I’m sure you’re aware of this, but it must be very easy for you to read. You said you’ve been like that since a kid, right.
So it’s very difficult for me to read. I get physical issues. My eyes start watering. I start yawning. I can’t, I can’t focus. It’s a weird thing. But I can listen all day long. So my library is all audibles and I can speed it up. So that helps me get through the book a little bit faster. And I love the the new capabilities that technology has allowed us. I love being able to have my own podcast at 68. It is an incredible thing that I never saw coming. I never saw coming. I never saw that coming. You know, I was on a stage, a live stage before pandemic… but then after that, everybody had to pivot or succumb to it.
Jessica Reilly 6:37
Yeah, variety of information. The different ways that we can disseminate information and absorb information just makes it more readily available because you know, being an auditory learner is a completely valid way of absorbing information and you’re not quote unquote, not reading just because you’re listening to books… that is still a perfectly valid form of reading. People have had books read to them for hundreds, if not 1000s of years. We’re just lucky enough to get to carry it around in our pocket with us.
Honey Smith Walls 7:01
That’s right. Well, the written language came after the verbal language.
Jessica Reilly 7:07
People have been telling stories for as long as we’ve been around.
Honey Smith Walls 7:10
That’s right. That’s right. Well, honey, I can’t thank you enough for spending some time with us today and telling us what it’s like to live in your shoes for a few minutes. I’m just tickled for you. I want you to tell the whole tribe back at Cannigma, how lucky they are to have you. And lucky we are to have you all as a team. I can tell the team work at that company. It’s just amazing.
Jessica Reilly 7:49
And it’s a phenomenal team to work with. Everybody is so smart and so good at what they do. And we are based all around the world. There’s part of the team in the US… part of the team in Israel. We are all over the place but it is so fun to get together on these calls and just nerd out about cannabis.
Honey Smith Walls 8:08
I know I know… that’s what I think too darling! So thank you for nerding out with me. It’s just been so much fun!
Jessica Reilly 8:12
No, it was wonderful to chat with you.
Honey Smith Walls 8:15
It sure was and I’ll see you on LinkedIn. Okay. All righty then. Take care, darling. And congratulations again.
Jessica Reilly 8:22
Thank you have a good one. Bye. Bye

Cannaba Verum is Latin for Cannabis Truth. Sourcing factual information about cannabis hasn’t always been easy for a variety of reasons. However now because of modern innovations, it is. My sources are from leaders in cannabis science like:
Roger Adams, U.S. Organic Chemist who isolated the structure of CBD,
Raphael Mechoulam, Israeli Organic Chemist who isolated the structure of THC,
Ethan Russo, Dir R&D International Cannabis and Cannabinoids Institute
Dustin Sulak, DO – my favorite doctor at healer.com, teaching the art of Cannabis Healing to the world, and other industry greats like:
Rev. Dr. Kymron DeCesare, Ed Rosenthal, Jack Herer, Michael Backes, and Michael Pollen and so many more… plus I use classical sites like: PubMed.gov, JAMAnetwork.com, ResearchGate.com. I listen to several daily podcasts to keep up with the latest cannabis news across the nation and throughout the world like: Dr. Codi Peterson et al on The Cannigma Podcast, MJTodayDaily.com and MarijuanaMoment.net. I trust the CBDProject.org and CannabisScienceTech.com. I watch the National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) at: thecannabisindustry.org and many more like: NCIA’s Cannabis Industry VOICE (CannabisRadio.com)
Over past episodes of Cannaba Verum, we’ve listened to some amazing scientists and medical professionals talk about their discoveries and patient successes as hundreds of questionable compounds rise to the public grasp. I am especially interested in the pharmacists movement becoming an integral part of this new medicinal choice.
Watch this machine roll into action through conversations with pharmacy doctors all over the nation like Dr. Leah Johnson out West and Dr. Alan Ao up North. There are so many more but these two have come on my show to explain the situation and it’s fascinating.

PS: Helping society get past the fear of using cannabis will be a lifelong journey for me. This industry is just opening up and most patients and doctors are seriously cannabis naive and need help understanding where to turn for trustworthy information.
If you need help opening that cannabis discussion with your family doctor, please reach out and grab the Dear Doctor Letter I wrote for this exact purpose. It will explain your decision to try cannabis and ask for their help in monitoring your labs and progress. It will also show them where they can find medical research on the subject of your diagnosis and the effects of cannabis.
