Welcome to the Cannaba Verum podcast, the cannabis truth podcast. I speak the language of cannabis freely and uncensored, while educating my audience on the safe use of this live Plant Therapy. You should know what’s in your cannabis, what’s good and what’s not. It does not come with an FDA stamp of approval yet, using cannabis mindfully, as medication is a different concept in the healthcare philosophy of the past 100 years. There’s a lot to learn and consider cannabis is not dangerous, but it is not harmless, either. This is honey Smith walls, a 21st century cannabis shaman here to explain the language of cannabis in historical, political, and scientific terms, so you can make educated decisions about the medicine you ingest.
Hello my friends,
I have a lot of experience loving alcohol. Alcohol has a lot of experience pickling my liver and distorting my mind and decision-making process. If you’re not familiar with the sensation, the level of distortion begins with a tickle within your mind that swells to giddiness that may even include goose bumps`, a false sense of relaxation and perhaps euphoria that is quickly replaced by a heightened sense of excitement and too many times, poor decisions that often end in monumental letdown. I know that game. Face to face.
You may have just heard my adventures aboard Captain Janie’s Sailing Vessel, a 34’ Sabre on a previous episode. She’s a single-hander who had just come through hurricane winds on the outside deep and needed a little help bringing her boat north. Although it was an exquisite 8 hour sail with absolutely NO problems, she had just suffered a traumatic blow to, in which her boat held steady in deep seas and hurricane winds, and brought her to shore safely and slipped into a marina to recoup. THAT kind of experience can cause a lifelong fear of being on your own.
And the next day, although she and I had a perfect sail up the IntraCoastal Waterway, the first thing we did when we disembarked was go get a drink.
At this point I have to say that it wasn’t so much the alcohol we knew would be semi-sedating as the ritual of dining to relax and all that means. Wipe off the salt water, find something with less wrinkles to wear, put a brush through your hair and some lipstick…VOILA… I’m a girl again. Then don’t stub your toe in those fancy shoes gettin off the boat between the water cans and fuel tanks secured to the lines, right wear you must navigate your feet to crawl onto the finger slip about 3 feet wide. Hold the stanchion, if it’s close enough, to balance that equation of rocking boat, your sea legs stepping onto a tiny pier with all your bags and valuables hoping not to tilt dangerously one way or the other… yet moving forward on a hard platform still looked something like a drunken zigzag. And we hadn’t even made it to the bar yet.
Another part of that equation is self realization and accomplishment. That alone calls for celebration. Mojitos all around!
And they were Devine. So was the ton of food we ordered which tempered the initial effects of our drinks… and then we had a long slow debrief about our day and the horrors of her recent event… to just let the stress dissolve and give her mind time to catch up with all that happened. Nothin like a great gab to feel better. We walked back down the dock laughing and light hearted with two great memories together as I collected my parcels and drove home. I still have my sea legs. The terra moves in rhythmic waves for me. It’s been about 12 hours since I stepped off the Artimus.
I came home and began writing for you. I wanted you to feel a bit of the extraordinary life of a full-time cruiser. And then I had to walk the pack. When that happens, I usually listen to my business podcasts to get industry and world news but today, I felt like catching up on some Weed History. That podcast and those guys just crack me up. I’ve told you a couple of great stories from their podcast and hope you’ll go there as well. The name of the whole show is Great Moments in Weed History and they’re gearing up for the new annual tribute to cannabis on April 20. The inside joke is that written out numerically the way we refer to dates, it become 420. That number refers to all the restaurant employees who took a scheduled break at that particular time, as dictated by their companies. And it became known for smokin weed out back. Of course it was illegal. But what do kids care. And that’s who created the notoriety around it. So now that cannabis has been re-legitimized, marketing is capitalizing on the date to create a new holiday event… just like they did with Valentines, Easter, Christmas and the 4th of July.
So the really funny, really smart guys at Weed History are giving us a little advance promo for their 420 surprises and talkin about the time Willie Nelson was smokin weed on the roof of the White House…
Now I’ve spent lots of time singing harmony with Willie at concerts…. I had a paid ticket for every one… And I’ve watched him on tv since I was a kid, singin on various country shows, late night entertainment like Johnny Carson and Jay Leno… He’s literally spanned decades of listeners, his music always true to himself and his experiences which makes us just like him… that’s his draw. We get to live his happy miseries through his music and live vicariously through the years of the open book he is. But for a long time, he was more like an open bottle of hard jack.
I watched many concerts he was so dog-slobbering drunk the band played the whole gig without him. He was dragged across stage by a pretty girl to wave and tip his hat and that was it. That was all that boy could do that night to assuage the love of his audience. We all forgave him. His genius and precious nature more important than griping about the demon alcohol that had taken his senses.
Do you know Willie now? If you ever saw him like that… for the years he was like that… you’d be surprised to find such a healthy demonstration of elderly in him now.
Somehow, with the help of weed, Willie was able to kick the demon drink. He turned to the cannabis industry and became an advocate, grower, producer, and influencer. And I’m telling you, from personal experience and not unlike Willie’s, cannabis can help you overcome the physical addiction to alcohol… and opioids too.
And cannabis doesn’t effect your decision-making process the way alcohol does. It doesn’t pickle your liver like alcohol. It doesn’t swell your ego to make you think you can do things your pickled response time can’t handle. It doesn’t negatively effect your libido, it doesn’t negatively effect your liver, it just doesn’t negatively effect if you do it right. I’m not saying cannabis has no negative effects. I AM saying you don’t have to experience those if you learn how to avoid them.
Willie is not the pickled alcoholic he used to be. He’s clear headed, sharp, a top comic, poet, singer, musician, and all around good guy whose been entertaining us with his country wit and charm for decades. And now he’s helping us understand cannabis.
Gold Stars for your crown in heaven, Willie. Break
So I was reminded that people need an escape from the shitty feelings in their lives or the physical pain they’re suffering and alcohol has been legal since Prohibition was finally over in… what year was that… that whole religious prohibition of alcohol back in the 30s of the last century…. how’d that work out again??? Anyway prohibition of cannabis is nearly finished too…Hurahhh! Then we can really get on with the business of reconstruction, reparations, and the healing our country so desperately needs.
Even when you have a Masters that come with being a clinical psychologist, you still need perspective to be able to help someone heal. Especially yourself. Using alcohol to sedate those feelings is only a temporary fix… and then you have to deal with it. But using cannabis to deal with it seems like a much better avenue. Cannabis calms a rage. Alcohol can create one.
And when your hero is in an alcoholic stupor whether lushing or raging, there’s no production but a sad frustration for those nearby. There was a lot of alcoholism in my family. It is an old adversary to me. Finding cannabis to help me through the harshness of survival on this planet meant longevity. I had to replace that habit of drinking my sorrows and excitements into oblivion if I expected to last longer than my parents.
Cannabis does a lot more than alcohol. And it does a lot LESS than alcohol. It’s a different thing. They’re not alike, even though we try to use them for the same emotional pain. We’ve been limited in helping ourselves overcome life’s challenges but with the legalization of cannabis, we can expect relief within seconds.
Look, I can forgive most of the actions of an alcoholic because the human is no match for it’s dark magic. And once it captures the human, it’s hard to give up.
But cannabis can really relieve that. It takes mindfulness of what you’re consuming… drinking is an addition and a habit. But with a plan you can put into action, there is plenty of support for replacing alcohol with cannabis to titrate off alcohol addiction.
I still drink socially on occasion. Love the tastes and the initial buzz. But I have to be mindful… alcohol likes my liver and took my mother before she was 60. I’m 66 now. I take a vitamin every day, eat a little Kim Chee for probiotics, tryin to go plant-based-vegan after 66 years of carnivorous dining, wish me luck. But coke and fries aren’t cuttin it. And I use cannabis all day to disconnect the pain from arthritis and herniated disks.
And that’s what Willie does now too. Don’t miss the back story of Willie Nelson and the Pro asking him to do a movie. Turns out, ole Willie has some gangsta in him with a reputation for takin some well known people down… Willie style.
Check out Great Moments In Weed History podcast wherever you listen and remember, friends, cannabis is good for us. It can help us out of addiction, be-it alcohol, tobacco or opioids, and assuage our tender minds and physical pain.
But one of the most important things to remember about buying cannabis right now is it’s purity. Check for contamination by asking for the 3rd party lab test on every single product you purchase for consumption. If you’re not building an airplane or car with cannabis, making biofuel or hemp create for building houses, then you’ve got to make sure it is grown as medicine for consumption. It must be pure. Contamination kills slowly. Makes me wonder how Navalny in Russian prison is doing on Putin’s poison.
So what to ask for when purchasing weed? And now I’m just using a generic term for all cannabis. Weed is street language for marijuana but you’ll hear a million names for it. You can’t get away from common language. But I do try to be specific for the sake of your fundamental knowledge.
Whether it’s over the counter cannabis at a hemp shop or from a medical marijuana dispensary, get into the habit of asking for that protection for yourself. Just say, “Could you show me the 3rd party lab test please?” And if they can’t, don’t buy it. Consider it contaminated. Go elsewhere. All street weed is contaminated. Unless you can find a street dealer who cares about your health and will go the extra mile to get the expensive testing so you have confidence in the product and peace of mind that what you’re about to ingest won’t harm you. Never a death on the planet by cannabis. But plenty of autopsies showing the contamination in cannabis caused death. Not the pot…
Before I go I want you to know I don’t have sponsors yet… I’m getting ready to start all that but just so you know… I’m not affiliated with anyone. I do my own little thing and just tell you what I think is important and entertaining about the industry as I find it. Weed History really is one of the best cannabis shows for perspective. The guys sound suspiciously like stoners at first, and then you quickly realize how smart they are. They realllllllly know the workings of politics. And all their stories have a poignant political streak. It’s just juicy and you can find their show everywhere. I’ll slip a link to their show at the bottom or you can find it later on my site.
My alcoholic hero’s are either pickle-liver dead now or they replaced it with cannabis and are living full lives again.
What’s calling you?
Pax Vobiscum Yall.

You’ve been listening to another Cannaba Verum podcast with 21st century cannabis shaman Honey Smith Walls, about the importance of using safe hemp and marijuana products. Unless otherwise proven by a reputable third party lab test, please be advised that all street weed is contaminated. It may do grave harm to a patient with a delicate immune system. I challenge you to check the veracity of my statements in each episode by checking the medical citations posted on my blog at Cannaba Verum.com.
