Intro

Honey Smith Walls 0:00

Welcome to season four of the Cannaba Verum podcast, the cannabis truth podcast.

I speak the language of cannabis freely and uncensored while educating my audience on safe use of this live plant therapy. You should know what’s in your cannabis…what’s good and what’s not.

It does not come with an FDA stamp of approval yet. Using cannabis mindfully as medication is a different concept in Western healthcare philosophy, specifically of the past 100 years. There’s a lot to learn and reconsider.

The information you’ll find here comes straight from scientists and clinicians doing the work and reporting their findings in real time through various live online outlets.

The scientific truth of cannabis is finally getting out and is wide open for all to see at respected medical sites like pubmed.gov and JAMA, the Journal of American Medical Association… and I’m right there in the thick of it with all those titans of medicine… as a fly on the wall.

Because I’m not a doctor, nor did I go to med school. But I did take dozens of private cannabis courses and still engage in continuing education offered by cannabis expert scientists over the past few years and slowly began to see and understand the bigger picture.

Now I talk to people all day long about cannabis and hopefully inspire them to research the facts as we know them today. Cannabis is an amazing alternative in health remedies. It can reportedly alleviate typical disease problems and troubling side effects, even those caused by synthetic prescriptions.

This is Honey Smith Walls, a 21st century cannabis shaman, not a doctor, not a scientist, raised by nuns and wolves in the verdant cattle pastures of the Oklahoma oil fields. I’m here to amplify the truth of this great big story of cannabis in historical, political, scientific and spiritual terms, so you can make educated decisions about the medicine you choose to ingest.

Megan Mbengue, RN (3:12)

Heyyyyyy…

Honey Smith Walls 3:15

How you doing today?

Megan Mbengue, RN  3:17

I’m good… how are you Honey?

Honey Smith Walls 3:19

Wow, it’s a splendid day out here in the middle of Florida on the eastern coast. Tell my audience where you are again. I think I just looked it up. And I think you’re right on the old highway 66 Aren’t you?

Megan Mbengue, RN  3:35

Yeah, yeah, we are. So I’m the furthest East city in LA County.

Honey Smith Walls 3:40

Oh, okay. I didn’t realize you were that close to LA.

Megan Mbengue, RN  3:44

Yeah, we are like 30 Miles directly east of Pasadena.

Honey Smith Walls 3:49

Tell us a little bit about yourself won’t you?

Megan Mbengue, RN 3:52

Yeah. Thank you so much for having me on. I am a cannabis nurse. So I teach people how to use cannabis as medicine. I have my own… I started my own company to do cannabis consulting and then started my own brand of high quality CBD products that I can offer directly to my patients.  I’ve been a registered nurse for 10 years… I started my nursing career working ultimately, I’m nationally certified in three different specialties and I’m currently in graduate school working towards a Master’s of Science in Medical Cannabis therapeutics.

Honey Smith Walls 4:28

Thanks for the elevator speech. It’s really wonderful and I’m so thankful for you. So appreciate your leadership as a woman in this industry. It sounds like you’ve really got a tiger by the tail. I’ve seen your website and Wowser mama, it is really fantastic. What I’d like to know is… and if you’ll help us understand the era of the industry that you began in, I mean, you began nursing 10 years ago, 10 years ago in California. Medical cannabis was already a thing. How was it back then when you started going to higher education for that and were you in Boston at that time? At Johns Hopkins?

Megan Mbengue, RN  5:17

No, no. So when it comes to relatively new… like in the last… just in the last couple of years, and in the medical side, I was doing home hospice for a while and that’s when I had my first patient that I used cannabis on… was in the last year.

They are still very, very closed off there. They tried to give me a gag order and told me I couldn’t educate patients on cannabis because it’s schedule one and they’re gonna lose Medicare funding… which is not based in reality. At all.  And the medical community in California is still…  I’m doing a lot of work to to break the stigma and educate nurses and health care workers out here.

Honey Smith Walls 5:54

You mean there’s still stigma in Cali-fuckin-fornia?

Megan Mbengue, RN  6:15

Oh my gosh, yeah, there’s so much of it.  I’m lucky that like, there’s less of it. And I’m not worried about… I mean that… I work for myself, but yeah, I wasn’t worried. At first I was worried about losing my job… but then I was like, I don’t care. Like if they’re gonna fire me for educating. I’m like yeah, fire me…just try.

Honey Smith Walls 6:37

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hello, Handmaidens. Right, right, good. But so what I was dying to ask you and I’m so glad we’re talking about it right now… What’s your elevator pitch to a cannabis naive doctor?

Megan Mbengue, RN  6:53

Gosh cannabis naive doctors….you know they’re gonna come with like…Oh, we don’t have evidence or just typical ‘War on Drugs’ propaganda.

I would say cannabis is the most studied drug in the world with over 35,000 Peer-Reviewed papers on it. And I would also say I believed that same thing that you believe. I believed all of that stuff. I thought that cannabis and CBD was like, this woowoo shit, junk science. Right? Right. And it wasn’t based in evidence and then I started learning and I was like, Whoa, yeah.

Honey Smith Walls 7:31

That’s what I love about this. The whoa factor.

Megan Mbengue, RN  7:36

Yeah, when you just jump in and start learning from the greats like Bonnie Goldstein and Dustin Sulak and those people…

Honey Smith Walls 7:43

I saw that you got the “Healer” certificate, so did I… it’s my treasure. I just adore the man. I think he’s so amazingly special and so is Bonnie. I think she’s amazingly special. Working in autism and all of that. I just love Codi Peterson who works in pediatric pharmacy… And Leah Johnson, I have to say these names out loud over and over again because they truly are the leaders you know, in their own fields of what they’re doing in cannabis and like you out there nursing in California and trying to help the elders.

Hospice is my sort of favorite niche as well. Although I’ve not had the opportunity yet to work in hospice. I will some day… I just feel it calling me, you know what I mean? Yeah.

But I have worked in many different realms as a nurse’s aide you know, in the burn unit and maternity ward, surgery units and all kinds of different places, because I was floating, and God did I love that… but the place I loved the most was working with the elders. Maybe my grandparents did that to me, you know, I just loved them. And I’m married to a 90 year old. So what’s that tell you? Yeah, yeah.

Not only that… he’s a teetotaler. He doesn’t believe any of this marijuana bullshit. And so, he’s been one of my greatest teachers to help people, elders get past their own propaganda and the propaganda of the last 80 or 90 years.

So, he worked in intelligence and yet he still gets propagandized… so what’s that?

We’ve got a crazy, crazy world of fear factor to get through with cannabis and propaganda and we have to begin our own science based stuff just like what you’re doin. The medical professionals who have yet to follow through. I mean, if you don’t know what the endocannabinoid system of receptors does, buddy you need to catch up.

Megan Mbengue, RN  10:05

Right? Yes, yes. And that all starts with nursing schools and medical schools and it’s just starting… we’re seeing it it peppered throughout the country in those schools and I got asked I recently to go do a session in Hawaii with nursing students so well, we’ll see if it turns into anything.

Honey Smith Walls 10:30

Oh, well get yer bikini ready, girl. That’s fun, man. And from what I remember, as a youngster, they grew some really nice shit over there.

Megan Mbengue, RN  10:44

Right? I know. They’re only medical right now. And it’s like, it’s a challenge for people to get access.

Honey Smith Walls 10:50

I’ve heard… Poor things. Dang. You know, it’s just crazy how hard it is for people to have access to not only good cannabis, whatever their needs are in the cannabis field… but also trusted banking… all of this… please let us connect the dots and make all of it come together like a real grown up business without ridiculous schedule with restrictions and fears. Oh, there’s so much to do. Hey, talk to me about your products and how you decided to come up with the formulations that you did. I just loved seeing what you’ve got in your shop now.

Megan Mbengue, RN  11:39

I’m super excited and it’s ever evolving. Three different tinctures. One is pain targeted with pain targeted terpenes and the other one is more stress and anxiety targeted with  linalool and myrcene. And that one we formulated with children with autism in mind.

And then we have a CBG formulation to help people with anxiety as well as like gut health and neuro inflammation.

Honey Smith Walls 12:15

So my audience already knows what CBG and CBN and CBD and all of those stands for I’m really proud that I’ve got a great audience… they know their stuff, but I’m so glad to hear you saying these out loud and how you decided to formulate them together. Once called Ease, is that right? Tranquil relief. Yeah. Okay. And they’re all full-spectrum, whole-plant products. I love that.

Megan Mbengue, RN  12:49

Yeah, that’s so important. And I recently switched to these because these are more effective and evidence-based for providing optimal outcomes. And they meet what’s called “flow criteria”, meaning that it’s flower derived, lab tested, organic and whole plant, and only 10% of CBD products out there meet this criteria.

Honey Smith Walls 13:13

I’ve never heard that term before. Thank you for educating us on flow criteria. Say it again. What that means… it meets the criteria…

Megan Mbengue, RN  13:26

The flower derived, lab tested, organic and whole plant. So it’s extracted from the plant in a way that maintains all the fatty acids, cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, chlorophylls… all of that… so it’s going to be more effective at a lower dose.
[1]

They use organic food grade ethanol to extract. So it’s a labor intensive process, but it maintains all of those good things… whereas co2 extraction strips that away.

Honey Smith Walls 14:05

Yep. Okay, great. Now we understand a little bit more. And so I love that they are advertising the terpenes as well… because after spending a lot of time with Russ Hudson’s new book, The Big Book of Terps… I really appreciate the value of terpenes so much more. And I tell everybody, it even changed the way I cook now, knowing what’s in the spices and what they do.

So the terpenes are just so great to understand and to have even more confidence in the product that you’re taking to help you with your needs.

Megan Mbengue, RN  14:53

So important to us to have it on the label, what the terpenes are, so that people know what’s working. And yeah, that book, The Big Book of Terps… is my textbook for my next class.

Honey Smith Walls 15:05

I will say that was that was our textbook for Public Cannabis School with Mo Smith, RN. She’s out in California too. And she’s a BSN RN, and she’s been leading this class. Fantastic. I just adore her. And so we’re into Bonnie’s book. And when we come back, we’ll be finishing up Bonnie Goldstein’s book and it’s been utterly wonderful too.

So anyway, both of these books have been outstanding reads really outstanding. And The Big Book of Terps… I tell my audience this… they already know this… it’s like a four and a half pound book that costs a pretty penny too…it’ll put you in the poor house for a half a minute for the price of that book, but so worth it. And so wonderful to have as a reference to go back and find the information that you need because it’s truly just overwhelming information.

There’s something else that I’d love to tell my audience about, in hopes that they will go to your website which by the way, is TrustedCanaNurse.com  TrustedCanaNurse.com

A really great site.

Dr. Mazo Commercial

By Honey Smith Walls

Hey, my friends, I want to give you a tip about a neurologist I know and trust.

Dr. Anthony Mazo is a highly rated specialist here in Melbourne, Florida.

One of the first physicians to research and study cannabis since 2016 when it was legalized in Florida, Dr. Mazo is not quick to prescribe traditional synthetic chemicals when he knows that this gentle live plant therapy will likely give the needed relief.

I know this to be true because I had to see him for my own old lady neuropathy issues. He did not prescribe the usual synthetic stuff. He told me to go get a particular kind of cannabis instead… and use it in a specific way to find relief.

And that is what every doctor in America should have in their little black bag.

His clinic details will be in my show notes for you. Why? Because he’s a trusted cannabis expert in the field of neurology. Dr.Anthony Mazo in Melbourne, FL at the Brevard Neuro Center.

Hey Friends,

I’m inviting you to join me on a Clubhouse live stage every Sunday at 8am Eastern for Sunday with Honey. This is your opportunity to ask me questions on my live stage about anything we’ve discussed on the podcast… and also where we speak about the spiritual effects of cannabis and how to find peace through means of calming our minds with tools we’re all familiar with… music, dance, mantras, and using this magnificent plant to guide our hearts into deep reflection and introspection.

Join my little experiment of love every Sunday on the Clubhouse… it’s an app. You can listen from the audience or join in conversation from my live stage on Sundays, 8:am Eastern on Clubhouse… We’ll talk about the many blessings of this live plant therapy in “Sunday with Honey”. Look me up.

We’ve got a weird little delay going on. It may be the storm still came through. But it’s okay. I’m back on your website and I’m in the pace at patient resource. Sorry Patient Services page. And I just want our audience to know this is really what I think makes a stellar professional medical service for our patients. You all really hold their hands. This is what I I tried to do over here in Florida too with patients but I’m not a medical professional like you… I’m just an advocate with extensive knowledge of the plant.

As I tell all of my audience, you have the medical background to facilitate far greater service and knowledge than I do for the patient, especially with other medical and prescriptive contraindications and that sort of thing. But, gosh, I’m so impressed. Tell us about the different programs that you’ve devised for your patients that offer support and your video services.

Megan Mbengue, RN  20:13

Yeah, so we just like this. That’s why I spent my time building out all of these pages. And so before… we were only offering one-on-one chances and I know that that’s not budget friendly for everybody.

So now we offer group sessions where just small group sessions of 10 people can come on and talk to a nurse. Explain what’s going on. We can give recommendations and then people can learn from other people in that group too.

And then we offered small short one-to-one consultations 20 minutes long over chat or over phone and then if people want more extensive help with severe chronic illness or they need follow up pediatrics, then we offer bigger packages as well. So we’re all about supporting our students and making the information accessible to everyone. So we’re really excited to just launch these new packages.

Honey Smith Walls 21:19

I am excited for you too because it really looks inviting. It really is juicy and enticing to me. I clicked on the one about elder care and cannabis and you’ve got some $5 and $6 videos that you can purchase that give you a lecture or something about lalalala… is that what those are?

Megan Mbengue, RN  21:48

Yeah, so for webinars, we did a webinar series in the fall. So we just did one to pediatrics, seniors and then just like an overall chronic pain and anxiety webinars. So those are now available for only five bucks. And it’s like a ton of information available on those webinars.

Honey Smith Walls 22:09

So I was on another screen just before you came on with me, I was about ready to push the buy button. Now I’m gonna go back and look at it and see if I can get my husband the teetotaller to watch it.

Megan Mbengue, RN  22:26

Yeah, and what’s really cool in the webinars is… my brother’s a pharmacist. So he’s in those webinars and he goes through like pharmaceuticals and how pharmaceuticals work in the body and then we go into the difference or similarities in how cannabis works in the body.

Honey Smith Walls 22:47

Wow! Really really nice comparison, huh? Yeah, that is so cool.

Honey Smith Walls 22:53

I’m going to skip over to your curious about cannabis nursing page. There is the cutest picture of a darling nurse with a fabulous tiara.  What is happening there?

Megan Mbengue, RN  23:08

Yeah. That’s Ashley and she’s a friend of mine. So she does a cannabis program for nurses wanting to get into cannabis. So with all the content that I create…. I get a lot of questions like how do I do what you’re doing? And then she actually has a program for that. And interestingly, like we partnered up a few months ago and then just like two weeks ago,  we both got voted the Entrepreneur of the Year Award!

Honey Smith Walls 23:41

Congratulations! Bet that felt good.

Megan Mbengue, RN  23:46

Yeah, yeah,  it was nice to have some of our work validated. No kidding. All the work that we’re doing with them yeah.

Honey Smith Walls 23:53

How can we can get in touch with you because I’m sure people are gonna want to know how to find you and they’re also going to want to take a look at your website and get your products and your service webinars. Those are really amazing. Yeah, tell us how we can find you.

Megan Mbengue, RN  24:15

We’ll have more events coming up to onboard webinars and stuff coming up. But people can find me at megan@trustedcannanurse.com  and we’re on Facebook and Instagram. I used to be on Tik Tok but they permanently banned me so….

Honey Smith Walls 24:35

That’s a badge of honor!

Megan Mbengue, RN  24:40

Yeah, so yeah…. I do educational content on social media. So people can get free information that way. And then if they want personalized help, we have these different affordable packages.

Honey Smith Walls 25:00

Yeah, I love that affordable part and they really are. I’m so proud of what you’re doing, Megan. It’s real leadership, real leadership and real help in this crazy era of the wild wild west of cannabis right now.

But you’re doing it girl, you’re really doing it and I’m just proud for you and want to thank you for your service. To all of us. Yeah, one last question before we go.  What are you reading right now that’s really wonderful that my audience and I might want to pick up.?

Megan Mbengue, RN  25:39

It is called The Essential Guide to CBD. It’s awesome. The Essential Guide to CBD by Project CBD.

Honey Smith Walls 25:43

Yeah, they’re really a magnificent company. We’re just really grateful to have their help in all of this mess, too. So they’re really helping to untangle all of it. And that’s the key to them. Yes. Yes. Well, I appreciate your time today. Thank you so much, Megan. And we’ll be in touch with you. I’ll put some links up on the show notes so people can just link right to you and will you come back and let us know when you’ve got some wonderful exciting news to tell us. Thanks again. Bye bye.

FINI:

You’ve been listening to another Cannaba Verum podcast with 21st century cannabis shaman Honey Smith Walls about the importance of using verifiably safe products. The process of getting a diagnosis from your family doctor and taking your records to a cannabis specialist can lead you to the correct cannabinoid therapy for those issues. Otherwise, you’re just your own guinea pig looking for answers without any foundational knowledge or ability to determine the best choices or strategies.

To find a qualified cannabis expert in your area… visit www.cannabisclinicians.org.

It is a national society of cannabis experts and you’ll see that link down in my show notes.

Unless otherwise proven by a reputable third party lab test, please be advised that all street weed is contaminated. It may do grave harm to a patient with a delicate immune system who already has inflammatory issues like arthritis, IBS, fibromyalgia or worse.

Subscribe to the Cannaba Verum podcast and become part of a project to understand the effects of cannabis on the public. Your anecdotal testimony is priceless to me. Medical citations are posted on my podcast blog when you visit CannabaVerum.com. That’s CannabaVerum.com. Hey, and one last thing… Would you take an extra second to give my podcast a Like and Review? It’s like Bitcoin crack for the algorithms. Thanks so much. Hey, I hear the cows calling.

MOOOOOOO!!

Sources

Cannaba Verum is Latin for Cannabis Truth. Sourcing factual information about cannabis hasn’t always been easy for a variety of reasons. However now because of modern innovations, it is. My sources are from leaders in cannabis science like:

Roger Adams, U.S. Organic Chemist who isolated the structure of CBD,

Raphael Mechoulam, Israeli Organic Chemist who isolated the structure of THC,

Ethan Russo, Dir R&D International Cannabis and Cannabinoids Institute

Dustin Sulak, DO – my favorite doctor at healer.com, teaching the art of Cannabis Healing to the world, and other industry greats like:

Rev. Dr. Kymron DeCesare, Ed Rosenthal, Jack Herer, Michael Backes, and Michael Pollen and so many more… plus I use classical sites like: PubMed.gov, JAMAnetwork.com, ResearchGate.com. I listen to several daily podcasts to keep up with the latest cannabis news across the nation and throughout the world like: Dr. Codi Peterson et al on The Cannigma Podcast,  MJTodayDaily.com and MarijuanaMoment.net.  I trust the CBDProject.org and CannabisScienceTech.com. I watch the National Cannabis Industry Association (NCIA) at: thecannabisindustry.org and many more like: NCIA’s Cannabis Industry VOICE (CannabisRadio.com)

Over past episodes of Cannaba Verum, we’ve listened to some amazing scientists and medical professionals talk about their discoveries and patient successes as hundreds of questionable compounds rise to the public grasp. I am especially interested in the pharmacists movement becoming an integral part of this new medicinal choice.

Watch this machine roll into action through conversations with pharmacy doctors all over the nation like Dr. Leah Johnson and Dr. Codi Peterson out West and Dr. Alan Ao up North. There are so many more getting involved now… these are just a few who have come on my show to explain the situation and it’s fascinating.

You’ll find citations available on my podcast blog at cannabaverum.com

PS: Helping society get past the fear of using cannabis will be a lifelong journey for me. This industry is just opening up and most patients and doctors are seriously cannabis naive and need help understanding where to turn for trustworthy information.

If you need help opening that cannabis discussion with your family doctor,  please reach out and grab the Dear Doctor Letter I wrote for this exact purpose. It will explain your decision to try cannabis and ask for their help in monitoring your labs and progress. It will also show them where they can find medical research on the subject of your diagnosis and the effects of cannabis.

You’ll find that letter at cannabaverum.com
